1/ for all that we try to mentor rather than manage, sometimes it's worth it to actually get in there, roll up sleeves, and show an inexperienced team what "good" looks like
2/ you should be transparent with the team about what you are doing and why to be clear that it's a demonstration, not micro-management (and in most cases suggestions rather than requirements, tho there are valid exceptions to that)
3/ I was reminded of this teaching customer interview techniques the other day. Usually I've had someone in the session volunteer to do a mock interview for the group to critique. This time, I did the mock interview.
4/ it was noticeable how much more they picked up just by seeing the ideas in action, done — dare I say — pretty well. Kind of like a picture being worth 1,000 words.
5/ while it's good for leaders to go out of their way to let others speak, get the spotlight, grow on their own, etc you can shortcut someone's growth just by giving them a peek into "good". For a person who's a quick study, that's all they need and they're off to the races.
