I often feel that queer people have a disadvantage working in non-profit philanthropy because, in my experience, we are not allowed to move past the heteronormative norms of behavior or even clothing that is more allowed in artistic departments
To exemplify, in a previous job my supervisor had bought me nail polish since she knew I enjoyed wearing it, and I had in the office, however, she was also the one to tell me to remove it before going out to any donor event or donor meeting
But then seeing my colleagues in the artistic department looking fabulous with their dyed hair and chunky jewelry and also being placed in the same tables as the donors felt like a complete disconnect for me
This is just another example of more barriers to eliminate in #philanthropy and other sectors of #Nonprofits
