There is a left-communist critique of electoralism (accompanied by a program of autonomous working class organizing) to which I am sympathetic, but that's not what Dore is doing. His critique is one of individual mettle, which is 100% idealist and therefore anti-Marxist.
I'm fine with refusing to vote for Democrats pending certain concessions, but unless it's an outgrowth of real, independent, institutional working class power, the only thing that's going to happen is even worse people getting elected.
AOC and the squad's theory of change might be flawed, but at least they have one that they are attempting to carry out, which will always earn more respect from me than mindless, idealist contrarianism.
And this goes without saying, but m4a will not be won via parliamentary procedure. It will be won by direct action in workplaces and in the streets.
At base, Dore is a radlib socdem who places undue emphasis on the electoral arena but has a poor sense of how to operate within it. Sirota's ideas are better but still unlikely to work on their own. We need a workers party (or federation) with longterm revolutionary strategy.
I feel like I've been sharing this a lot lately, but here's one way to think about a workers party which de-centers the ballot line question, which is ultimately a red herring imo https://dsaemerge.org/on-the-party-question/
Ugh why did I tweet about this, my mentions are a fucking nightmare
