In 36 games as #NotreDame's defensive coordinator, Clark Lea held the opposing team below its expected point total in 24 of them.
That 12-24 opposing team total over/under will forever be my favorite "Don't take Clark Lea for granted" statistic, but this is a deserving runner-up: https://twitter.com/D_Farmer/status/1332700716247506952
And this continues to be the quiet secret to #NotreDame's defensive success this season. Not third downs, but first downs. https://twitter.com/D_Farmer/status/1320365496773070848
Ya know, two months after #NotreDame held Louisville to seven points and barely 200 yards, the Cardinals are up to the No. 12 offense in the country per SP+. https://twitter.com/D_Farmer/status/1318211302129545216
This season #NotreDame has played the Nos. 3, 5 and 12 offenses, per SP+.
Collectively, they averaged 2.5 yards per rush, 72 rushing yards, 335 total yards and 21. 3 points.
In 29 other games, they averaged 5.5 yards per rush, 217 rushing yards, 519 total yards and 41.2 points.
My point is, you took Clark Lea for granted.
So did I, covering his excellent defenses.
Louisville, Clemson and North Carolina have averaged 41.2 points per game this season when not playing #NotreDame.
They combined for 57 in regulation against the Irish.
Absurd.
