Finally gave @MaroonCast a listen last night while assembling a bookshelf and i felt like i was dropping into conversation with old friends. everything i see in pre-revolutionary activities and communities rn is screaming the need for internal work, basic needs, crisis mgmt, ...
acknowledgment of soul/spirit or at least emotions and trauma. this episode gave me so much resolve in my ideas that (unfortunately) it seems i needed. look after each other in the ways many can't express rn. we need healing/medical & crisis centers, peer respites, home services.
i don't care any more if activists don't wanna talk about this stuff or don't yet have the language. we will get there together and those of us who know this needs to be addressed before the revolutions can stand on their legs need to have confidence in the direction we initiate.
i've been critical of NAMI in the past, but Colorado doesn't even have a peer respite. we have to engage anywhere we can to intervene, and encourage people to get help anywhere they can. i'm gonna look into the local group here, check out your area too. 💜 https://namibouldercounty.org/find-support/support-groups/
i wish this didn't need to be said either, but none of these systems center marginalized/periphery cultures and ways of being. those who are marginally comfortable in these settings need to be observing others and advocating with consent.
this is peer advocacy, which can be done for anyone trying to navigate these entirely fucked up systems. "peer" is a horizontal, reciprocal relationship. we need peer advocacy, peer support, authenticity, vulnerability, and spaces to hold this intense shit we are going through.
