These highly populated areas have inherently had differing values from other areas of the country.
If you didn't have the electoral college, then areas that are less populated would not be represented, and would be put in the back seat on deciding who runs the Nation.

With all due respect, I disagree.
The only way you can gerrymander is to strategically move districts to influence a majority of representatives to get elected which otherwise wouldn't have.

Since the electoral college can't "move" around from state to state (Georgia can't take over a big part of Florida, for instance) it by definition is not a gerrymander.
While some make the false equivalency, the analogy falls flat because State borders are set pretty much in stone, unlike congressional districts.
I do understand how people make the comparison, because some electoral votes seem to be "worth more" than others... but that isn't entirely true either.
Many opinion articles are written with fantasy of being able to change State borders in an attempt to force the comparison, but it's a serious reach, and they know it.
There 538 electoral votes, if a State has a smaller population, they receive less electoral votes.
This is to even the playing field, so that large population centers won't completely dominate areas with smaller populations.

I am in no way saying there isn't corruption within these types of systems.
I'm just saying that in its theoretical purpose, the electoral college is NOT gerrymandering, and actually does the opposite of what most of its critics claim.
