why i think Fearless is a zouis song
✨a thread✨
disclaimer: people get touchy over song interpretation at times but truthfully lyrics are up to individual interpretation so if you don’t agree that fine this is just me expressing how i personally interpreted this song. the only person that knows the true meaning is louis so...
also i am in no way trying to dismiss zayn’s feelings/ his reasons for leaving 1d. i think he made the best choice for his mental health and that takes a lot of bravery to do.
“cashin’ your weekend treasures
for a suit and tie, a second wife”

here i think of how louis and zayn would go out and do fun stuff together all the time during 1d days (ex: clubbing)
now, however, louis is saying that zayn is no longer doing this bc he gave it up after-
-settling down for a more serious life. the “second wife” part is especially telling, to me, that it’s about zayn since he had been previously engaged to be married and now is again
“Now I'm not saying that you could've done better
Just remember that I, I've seen that fire alight”
here louis is clarifying that he isn’t judging zayn for choosing to settle down but rather trying to remind him of the “fire”/passion zayn has within him, a passion for music
“Tell me, do you, tell me, do you still remember feelin' young?
Tell me the truth, tell me, do you still remember feelin' young
And strong enough to get it wrong in front of all these people?”
all these rhetorical questions louis poses are meant to get zayn to reflect on-
-his experience in 1d and recognizes how they were young and made mistakes as the whole world had them all under a microscope during 1d days
“Just for tonight, look inside and spark that memory of you
Strong enough to get it wrong in front of all these people”
once again telling zayn to reflect on this experience and how even if it wasn’t always the best, it was still a stage in his life, part of who he was
“Now if happiness is always measured
By the life you design, that car on the drive”

here it’s a more general message of money can’t buy happiness. material objects accessible to someone with their kind of money do not determine the happiness an individual has.
“Then you should feel better than ever
But you know as well as I, it's all lies”

both him and zayn are living quite comfortably because well they’re millionaires but he’s saying there’s more to life than money and maybe reflecting on their experience in 1d as being that “more”-
-since it sparked a fire within them/ a collective passion for music and allowed them live out their dream
so overall i think this is a response to Good Years where zayn expresses a lot of hesitation and regret when looking back at his 1d days and hopes it wasn’t an experience that wasted his youth.
now, the day Good Years came out louis tweeted and it sounds like he was not very-
-pleased (if he was indeed reacting to the song). so i think with Fearless louis wanted to respond to zayn and ask him to think about his experience in 1d in a bit of a different light. to realize that while there were bad aspects to it there was also a shared passion for music-
-and that even the bad parts of it were still a part of his life that contributed to who he is today— a strong and fearless individual, and he should try to remember the good things being in 1d brought not regret the overall experience of it

in conclusion, i miss zouis 😔
