DANTAK or the Border Roads Organization of India in Bhutan is supposed to build and maintain certain roads in Bhutan.

It is an important role and Bhutanese are grateful, especially for its historical contributions in Bhutan’s early stage of development.
But DANTAK of today seems to be a more political & PR oriented.

This is because a senior official in DANTAK who controls its lucrative media advertisements let my marketing officers know that if my paper wants ads then we should write more ‘positive content’ on DANTAK & India.
The officer also expressed a grouse that our homegrown Bhutanese Department of Roads are being given too many roads to manage which DANTAK can handle.
The Bhutanese paper has obviously not complied with such requests as a fair minded and neutral news organization, and as a result we have been in an undeclared advertising blacklist by DANTAK for more than a year.
I did not know DANTAK has been tasked with managing the Bhutanese media apart from some of our highways.

I have been very fair when it comes to India, given our close ties, and I am a believer in the relationship, but such subservience is a bit too much to ask.
