this is what prompted a closer look at the touch numbers for me, and a couple interesting things here: https://twitter.com/HaydenClark81/status/1338258201217814528
as @FanOfNuance pointed out, Edge and Faulk were both high-volume lead guys from Day 1, whereas Addai and Taylor shared the load
Edgerrin James had 369 carries and 62(!) catches as a rookie, Faulk had 312/52.

Addai had 226/40, Taylor is on pace for 210/39, but has been trending upward.
the most fascinating element of all of those guys though is that their high-volume numbers were secondary to elite passing offenses.

1999 Colts - 2nd in the league in pass EPA/play, 14th in rush
2006 - 2nd in pass, 9th in rush
2020 - 5th in pass, 20th in rush

(no EPA for 1994)
so if you're rooting for the Taylor to continue to be successful and rack up stats, root for the foundation of the offense to continue to be efficient passing
TL;DR - Pass to win, win to run.
