Many people don’t understand why Browns fans HATE the Ravens. With tonight’s monster match up, I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone of why... (THREAD)

Go back to 1992, Art Modell owned Cleveland Municipal Stadium, home of the Browns and Indians. Modell got all revenue from luxury suites, even during Indians games. Modell wasn’t putting any money into the stadium, especially for the Indians. It wasn’t his team.

Indians got fed up and wanted a new stadium. The City of Cleveland created the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex, a group that went about funding sand alone stadiums for the Indians and Cavs. Modell refused to be apart of the group when he wasn’t permitted to keep all $

So now without the Indians money, Modell was in trouble. He lost millions and was in trouble. He asked Cleveland for millions to rebuild HIS stadium. The city put up a sin tax which would raise $175 million on the ballot.

But behind the scenes Modell was already in talks w/ Bal

Less than a week before the city of CLE was to vote on the win tax to give Art $175 million to bail him out, Modell announced he was moving the Browns to Baltimore.

CLE STILL approved the $175 million. Many believe Art announced the move when he did to sink the vote. It failed

Modell claimed that he was moving because the city of Cleveland wouldn’t give him a new stadium. City officials disputed this saying the Gateway complex were willing to build him a stadium and he said no. That has been backed up by George Forbes & Dick Jacobs

Baltimore offered Art a new stadium, allowed him to keep all money from parking, concessions, TV and a 25 million a year subsidy from the state of Maryland.

He took the deal.

Despite all of that Modell still could not make money with a NFL team. In 2002 the league stepped in and forced Modell to sell the franchise.

Instead of selling it in 1996 to someone who would keep it in Cleveland Modell was too selfish and arrogant and took the team from its fans. The man couldn’t make money with a NFL team.

So maybe you never knew the background story of why Browns fans hate Art Modell, but there it is.
