Capitalism is diametrically opposed to the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching, and, therefore, it must be abolished. A thread. 1/8
Against the "Life and Dignity of the Human Person," capitalism fuels wars, puts lethal sanctions on socialist economic competitors, and turns healthcare into a business. 2/8
Against "Family, Community, and Participation," capitalism turns the working day--not the family--into the bedrock of society. Capitalism's thirst for productivity turns parents away from their children and towards the business, even during "time off." 3/8
Against "Rights and Responsibilities," capitalism turns rights into commodities. The right to education is bought and sold. Healthcare is bought and sold. If you have less money, then you have fewer rights in practice. 4/8
Against the "Option for the Poor and Vulnerable," capitalism breeds income inequality. The goal of the capitalist is to use workers for personal gain, to maximize profits by paying workers less for more work. 5/8
Against the "Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers," capitalism turns workers into commodities that are bought and sold. We now have a "labor market," also known as a "human market." 6/8
Against "Solidarity," capitalism's foundation is competition. 7/8
Against "Care for God's Creation," capitalism is causing global climate change. Endless consumption produces waste. Big oil and big coal are polluting the air. Wealthy corporations are destroying forests, rivers, and mountains to exploit nature for personal gain. 8/8
