You likely missed it, but there was a big bombshell of an article from @climate this weekend on a project I've been following: Vineyard Wind https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-12-12/vineyard-wind-is-said-to-face-lengthy-delay-after-pulling-permit
Essentially, an anonymous source
says @BOEM_DOI will announce asking to pause the federal review process in order to reevaluate which turbines the project should use will result in a total reset (and 18-month delay) of the federal review of the project.

Here's the announcement from Vineyard Wind that they would be using the newest, biggest offshore wind turbines on the market. 13MW!
That would the number of turbines from 80-something to 60-something https://www.vineyardwind.com/press-releases/2020/12/1/vineyard-wind-selects-ge-renewable-energy-as-preferred-turbine-supplier

It was hard not to notice that this would move the final decision (and perhaps just as importantly?) announcement of the final decision from the Trump administration to a brand new Biden administration. https://twitter.com/bstorrow/status/1333893060762144775
It's very hard to know what's going on in the board rooms and bureaucracies, but it's hard not to speculate.
Were there fears the project would get an unfavorable decision?
Was this a political move to deny an obstructionist administration the PR win of announcing approval?

All speculation, by the way. All mine.
The people who know what is going on haven't talked to the press about it.

Regardless, for my money, the most important question is now this one: how binding is a ruling like this one?
Can a new Biden Interior Secretary simply reverse it?
Does Vineyard Wind have legal recourse to insist this is unjust?

These are the questions I'm looking for answers to this week.
If you think you have the answers, my DMs are open!

A bit of a SCOOP (there's a sentence I don't think I've ever tweeted): The Trump Administration's Department of Interior has released a memo that could have dramatic implications for the burgeoning offshore wind industry.
It's titled... wow that's a mouthful
