I have no idea if the speculation that @PeteButtigieg is being considered for Secretary of Transportation is true or not. But the discourse on here suggesting that he isn't qualified or experienced enough shows a gross misunderstanding of what mayors do. (1/5)
Being a mayor is the toughest job in politics. Unlike members of Congress (who many of you want to see in top Cabinet positions), we balance multimillion dollar budgets, manage thousands of employees, and regularly interact with the people we represent. (2/5)
Pete may not have been your preferred candidate, but don't discount his readiness. I remember being a 21 year old candidate for mayor in 2011. I was told I was too young and inexperienced to balance a $125 million budget and oversee 2000+ employees. (3/5)
I argued that traditional "experience" wasn't working for us, and I would argue it hasn't worked for us on the federal level as well, including at DOT. We shouldn't use the experience line only on candidates we don't align with 100% of the time. (4/5)
I'd love to see Biden appoint an LGBTQ member of his Cabinet, and I'd be happy to know it's Pete. (5)
