Thread on latest Travel in London 13 report - pandemic section. Outlines huge impact coronavirus has had on London Transport :
Demand fell rapidly in March. Tube biggest drop. Smallest drop road traffic. By end August bus at 60%, tube 40%. Travel to & within central very low levels. BUT WFH means “the value of local town centres has been rediscovered. With this comes opportunities for active travel”
Car travel more resilient and faster to get to “normal levels” - quick return raises concerns about London’s limited road capacity to cope.
On tube by mid-Oct peak moved 15 mins earlier. 30% as busy. Weekend travel recovered more quickly. Buses saw flattening of demand across the day
Cycling - commuter cycling decreased due to WFH but leisure cycling increased. Massive increases in weekend cycling.
Look at road traffic - not far off 2019 apart from central. HGV fell the least.
