A really cool letter from history
Details: from a child (?) too cowardly to sign their name; printed without reply; printed in the issue containing the FINAL part of Death Planet; Death Planet makes me feel sick w/ it’s tangible misogyny
One assumes it was written by a shithead with a sister, but many narratives are available. This individual was allowed to make their suppressive statement unhindered, in an issue seeing off the first human female lead of 2000ad. An uncool essence, really. Rest in pieces
A tenner in today’s! The cg grift is old https://twitter.com/lollyagain/status/1338448720430587905
I’m still working on finding words for exactly what gives me such the get-away-from-me goosebumps in Hebden’s ‘78 output: Death Planet in 2000ad, Mind Wars in Starlord. It’s something about how his female characters seem empty
They legitimately disturb me as a reader. Like having fingers in my brain
I think it’s something in how they crash from one emotionally-based decision to the next, without any sense of interim existence, and spend 30% of the time being berated for making the wrong decisions
There’s also the constant sense that at any second, at any given moment, they could become married to any given male in their orbit
It’s strange reading 1978 in 2020 and thinking “this is old fashioned for what I’d expect.” These 1950-kitchen dynamic space stories next page over from Dredd
It kind of freaks my nut that appaz this podcast, which Ive tried a couple times & enjoyed, thought the mind wars girl was a good character & I’m too afraid to find out why https://spacespinner2000.com/tag/2000ad/
