As I leave @STLebanon, I take great pride in the continuation of the Inter-University Program on International Criminal Law and Procedure https://www.facebook.com/Inter-University-Program-on-International-Criminal-Law-and-Procedure-712064098818039, a course I conceptualized nearly 10 years ago, when I started as the Head of STL’s Outreach and Legacy.

The Inter-University Program on International Criminal Law and Procedure (IUP) brings together 11 Universities in Lebanon, @TMCAsser in The Hague, @STLebanon and, as of 2018, the International and Transitional Justice Resource Center @ITJRC1, an NGO created thru the IUP.

On 7 December 2020, @STLebanon officially handed over the management of the program to @TMCAsser and the @ITJRC1. The new session will start shortly with over 200 people already enrolled. Those interested can apply here: https://form.jotform.com/203222164521441 or visit the IUP FB page.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Lebanese university students, officers of @Lebanesearmy2, @LebISF and @DGSG_Security and lawyers from https://www.facebook.com/bbalebanon and Tripoli Bar Assoc to learn about international criminal law from the leading experts in the field for free.

The course is conducted via video link from The Hague to students gathered at one of the participating Universities in Lebanon and the best students are awarded with a study trip to The Netherlands, to visit @STLebanon, @IntlCrimCourt, @CIJ_ICJ, @unirmct and @TMCAsser.

Since 2011, 1,189 students, officers of @Lebanesearmy2, @LebISF and @DGSG_Security and junior lawyers from https://www.facebook.com/bbalebanon have completed the course and 155 students have benefitted from the study trips to The Hague, all free of charge to them.

Over 30 professors from @AUB_Lebanon, @BeirutArabUniv, @LebaneseUni, @USJLiban, @Uni_Of_Balamand, @ulslebanon, @NDU_Louaize, @USEKOfficial, @aust_lebanon, @LebAmUniv, @OfficialIul, @AUNOHRuni also conducted working visits to The Hague and its intl judicial institutions.

Dr George Masse of @aust_lebanon has said that “the Inter-University Program is the best attempt towards reconciliation in #Lebanon, because it brings together universities and students from different backgrounds in a country where dialogue unfortunately lacks.”

Exceptionally this year, due to the pandemic, the course and the visits will be conducted fully online.
