As of now, no country can get more than 7% of all #green_cards each year. #India is a large country, so the share of 7% is not enough, and always there is a #backlog. At times, #Indians have to wait like 20 years to get a #GreenCard.

Under misguided thinking, #Democrats and #Republicans decided to remove the 7% #cap without changing anything else. The law-makers pushed the #HR1044 and #S386 through the two houses of #Congress. 2/8
As the total number of #GreenCards is fixed, this unintelligent bill makes it impossible for even the young #Indians to apply for #GreenCards. A young #scientist from Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, India, etc., will have to wait like 10-20 years to get a US #GreenCard. 3/8
Unquestionably the #GreenCard waiting time for talented individuals from #India is very long, which is truly heartbreaking. However, removing the #per_country cap for #GreenCards is not a solution, not even a band-aid. 4/8
We need comprehensive #immigration reform, which makes it easier for #talented individuals, regardless of their nationality, to be able to apply for a US #GreenCard and obtain it in a timely manner. 5/8
I urge the president-elect @JoeBiden and the president @realDonaldTrump to stand up against this unintelligent bill and push for a #comprehensive #immigration #reform instead. 6/8
#MadamVicePresident @SenKamalaHarris, as an immigrant and a researcher at @StanfordMed , I am genuinely disappointed to see your support for this harmful bill #S386. Please withdraw your support. 7/8
Somehow agencies such as @CNN @NYTims @USATODAY @Forbes @MSNBC are oblivious and do not cover the story appropriately. @Trevornoah @iamjohnoliver why are you silent?
This is a massive unfavorable change and will alter the immigration landscape for years to come. 8/8
