From the momnet it was clear he won on 11-08-2016, I always knew that the Judicial Branch of our government was going to determine the fate of our democracy. We indeed can celebrate the judiciary and praise them for doing their job and honoring the constitution. However, I think what is more important, is that we examine all the other lines of defense that failed that required such a strong unanimous rejection of the judiciary.
The complicit senate that held a sham impeachment trial with no witnesses and stood by as this administration broke one law after another. A senate that completely shattered the norms of government by rushing through SCOTUS appointments.
The overall power vs accountability of the executive branch needs to be closely examined. From the transition to now, there are around 170 positions and offices wither unfilled, or being held by someone not confirmed by the senate. This should have been done in the first 90 days.
The ridiculous and absurd ethics violations flat out ignoring the emoluments' clause. We learned under Trump, that those rules alone with virtually every other one, mean absolute jack shit, if you have a friendly senate that is willing to look the other way.
Trump and the GOP set the blueprint for undermining the constitution in this presidency. They demonstrated that all of these laws are just words on paper as long as you control the Senate. The only reason it's not worse than what we've seen is the sheer incompetency of Trump.
We got lucky this time. However, now that the GOP knows they can do it, and successfully proved most of these rules are meaninglyess on their own,, they are FOR SURE going to try again, in 2024 and every other opportunity they get.
The GOP is so closely bound to the Christian evangelical contingent, they are fine with breaking whatever laws they have to. when looking through the skewed lens of the evangelical and fundamentalist mind, the ends tend to always justify the means as it is "Gods will"
What the media is too polite to say, and that people know but tend not to say out loud is this:

What they want is their own authoritarian.
They will obstruct the opposititon and blatantly break the law and subvert democracy. That is their only goal. They will not relent, and that will always be trying to do this.
We barely stopped them this time. We need to be aware.

In their mind they are right, their interpretation of the bible is absolute. They will gladly break every single rule to get what they want.
