All the bad discourse on vaccines is getting to me. Stupidity all around. Vaccines are like any other "drug". They work as they are intended to, with some side-effects/adverse effects, to varying degrees. Ppl have allergies, ppl have adverse reactions to certain things, some >
ingredients are contra-indicated in ppl who have certain conditions and/or take certain other drugs. For this reason theres really nothing that isn't going to cause side-effects somewhere for someone. Some side-effects are mild, some are serious. Some things cause side-effects >
in a large number of ppl, some others cause side-effects in a small number of ppl. All of that is true. There are vaccines for which their effectiveness, the degree to which they do as intended, is so high that it greatly outweighs their proven ability to cause side effects, >
either because of the relative mildness of the side-effects or the relatively small number of ppl who will experience the side-effects, or some combination thereof. Many vaccines that have been in use for a long time are in that category. There have been vaccines that have >
been put into use for which the adverse reactions overall were deemed eventually to have been worse than the disease for which they were made. A vaccine released in the US in 1976 for the swine flu is one such well-known example. Not every person who reportedly suffered >
a serious adverse effect as a result of a vaccine is a crank. Some "bad" vaccines have been approved for use. This shouldn't be difficult to understand, because most ppl seem to understand that this happens with other pharmaceutical products.
Where nefarious activity has occurred is when a vaccine maker has become aware of the prevalence of serious adverse effects to a vaccine during a trial but has suppressed this information in order to get the vaccine approved & used widely enough that their profits will far >
outstrip their projected damages they know they will pay out later to ppl & families of those who suffer the adverse effects. This can happen & has happened, just as it has for other pharmaceuticals. It is entirely possible that vaccines can, & in fact they do, exist that are >
very effective & are definitely "worth" getting; your chances are much greater to stay healthy by getting this vaccine. That doesn't somehow make every single vaccine released somehow the same. You've probably taken a medication that has worked very well, maybe one that >
saved your life. That doesn't mean there haven't been bad drugs approved for use. Not sure why so many ppl are trying so hard to be on a "side" that thinks "vaccines are all good" or "vaccines are all bad".
Its reasonable to think we should be cautious regarding a new vaccine because the companies that make them hear that cash-register sound whenever theres a new virus. And definitely there have been vaccines approved for use, mandated in some cases, detractors painted as kooks, & >
later to have been determined to have been wrongly approved. Trying to paint all skeptics as kooks is dumb, counter-productive, and not very sound based on history. Likewise pretending that every vaccine is bad because there are side-effects is also dumb.
I fully expected my puppy to feel somewhat under the weather yesterday after getting a shot, its so common. Anyone who has kids, its pretty much the same thing. And you always know there's a tiny chance of more serious adverse reactions. Its still a much smaller risk for >
serious illness or death than it would be to let her walk around unprotected from parvo & distemper. There are however other canine vaccines out there that I dont plan on ever getting for her.
The ppl that I consider "anti-vaxx" reject virtually all vaccines in use & probably the concept of vaccines in general. I think this is a stupid position & definitely contrary to information available. Being cautious or skeptical of the companies that make them & of the govt>
agencies that approve them & not just assuming that every new vaccine is automatically safe because they told us it is isnt "anti-vaxx" nor is it stupid or kooky. It means you pay attention, are informed, and don't crumble under pressure to conform.
In recent years the US govt has been pre-emptively absolving pharmaceutical companies & barring any attempts to recover damages directly from them when "bad" vaccines are released and we should definitely be suspicious of this.
It would be nice if just for once we could engage in good-faith pursuit of good & helpful information for productive purposes instead of jumping into the "pro" or "con" camps & instantly fortifying our positions with regard only for looking like the winners, regardless.
Maybe im weird but I would actually prefer to admit I was previously wrong about something & know that I'm in honest pursuit of the facts than to be declared on the winning side that prevails even though they're wrong.
