Physicians should have chosen a word that wasn't already in use by doctorate holders if they wanted a super-special, exclusive honorific.
Love how the FACTS AND REASON crowd ignores the plain facts of the history of the term "doctor" and the simple reasoning that physicians, as latecomers and usurpers of the term, have no claim to exclusive use.
Also love how the Bens Shapiro of the world make allowance for hard science doctorates to be called doctor, even though an astrophysicist is as useless as a musicologist in the face of his notional dinner party stroke.
It's almost like they just hate people who consider stuff that makes them uncomfortable.
