About a year ago, I started hearing about this new Korean boy band called BTS. Being an old bat (36 😂) and far removed from my own "boy band" days, I simply assumed I was too old for their demographic

and didn't pay them much further attention.

As a member of the #MJFam (Michael Jackson fans), in August 2020 we were looking to get Billie Jean to hit 1 billion views on YouTube in honor of Michael's 62nd birthday, while at the same time the . @BTS_ARMY were looking to pick

up views for BTS' new song and video, Dynamite. So the two fandoms worked together, helping each other to achieve their goal (we're still working on BIllie Jean!). Upon first hearing Dynamite, I liked it, it was definitely catchy but eh... nothing that really got me to say

"Wow! These guys are incredible!". That took watching the @NPR Tiny Desk concert. Uncertain whether they could really hack it or were just another Milli Vanilli, their NPR performance proved that they were the real deal.

Over the past few weeks...

I've taken a little time to try and learn more about them- starting with their names, my goodness. I'm horrible with names anyway so it'll take me a bit, lol. But also their music. Which is nothing at all what I was expecting. I was expecting maybe another NSYNC or BSB.

But even as a hardcore fan of those guys, BTS just blows them out of the water. Though I don't know their Korean lyrics, the music alone is enough to move you, and their music videos- they aren't you're typical music videos with half naked girls shaking their asses

on the screen. Their videos are straight up performance art- and it's incredible to watch. They are quite literally breathtaking. I was finally starting to understand what endeared these 7 young men to their fan base so much.

And then the other day, I ran across

this performance on Japan's Best Artist. Right at the beginning Jungkook (?) raises his hand and he has the word "Army" tattooed across his knuckles. This just gave me all the feels because you hear about the deep connection these guys have with

their fans, and I found that notion rather bittersweet. Usually it's the fan getting the tattoo to celebrate their favorite artist. Here, you have the artist getting a tattoo that celebrates his love back towards his fans.

I come to have a lot of respect for BTS because of

who they are, what they stand for, what they represent, and of course for their immense talent. As much as I want to, I doubt I'll ever understand the Army, or even be part of it, but that's ok. I'm good with just calling myself a fan, because that is what I have become.

Every performance of theirs is absolutely incredible, and blows the one before it away. I do hope they put out more English language songs soon- their music is so enjoyable and it would be fund to be able to sing along!

2020 has been a very rough year for everyone, and I would just like to thank . @bts_bighit . @BTSW_official & . @BTS_ARMY for lighting up the year like dynamite! 🧨💥

❤️❤️❤️
