1) As far as the AOC criticism on her recent statements and the back and forth about Dore, this is my opinion on the whole thing. This will be a few tweets but probably no more than 5
2) I disagree with AOC’s comments and those in the back and forth talking about a vote on medicare4all being not worthwhile as a demand if they’re gonna vote for Pelosi for speaker.
That said, there are things I would rather see be demanded in exchange for a vote for her

3) getting Richard Neal off of certain committees or getting progressives appointed to certain committees might be a better exchange, but no matter what, something needs to be getting exchanged because Pelosi as Speaker is trash and it’d be awful if people are supporting her and
4) getting nothing back in return. Also I think it’s incredibly stupid to assume anything you are promised by her will actually come to be if it’s not going to be put out publicly as a made deal before she gets the vote for Speaker.
5) Putting aside the question of whether it’s the best thing progressives should be demanding vs other possibly good demands, a vote on medicare4all would be helpful because it would put people on record.
Lot of politicians like to say they support or co-sponsor a bill for it

6) but then turn around and claim later that it’s just a framework or an idea or a set of principles and not an actual bill. Both Kamala and to a lesser degree Warren did this just this past primary.

7) one they think their current audience wants to hear whether it’s when election time comes along or when they are looking for big money donors. This makes it harder for them to do both as people can run ads attacking them depending on how they vote and use the official vote to
8) do so. The idea that it wouldn’t pass and thus would hurt the movement for it, is incorrect imo, as what hurts is having people confusing voters by claiming to support it but then kneecapping it behind the scenes and when it’s time to vote.
9) I lied, this will be closer to 12 tweets,
i think some people are against the idea because it came from Dore and also because they think AOC is always right

10) Dore imo is a bit too worried about his audience and has realized, because he’s not an idiot and his background is that of a performer who did stand up and thus could read a crowd, that he gets more views the more aggressive and angry he comes off.
I find it annoying but

11) it doesn’t make the idea a bad one or him a grifter. Yes he’s totally a hypocrite on a lot of stuff but quite honestly, the argument has moved beyond him, it’s no longer about Dore.
It’s about AOC and progressives in the House and whether they are making mistakes or not
It’s about AOC and progressives in the House and whether they are making mistakes or not
12) It is crucial that no one is held up as perfect, and AOC, is sometimes wrong. I think she’s wrong here.
That doesn’t mean she’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing or should be thrown out as not good enough tho.
She’s wrong here, not secretly trying to undermine everything

13) At the same time, when she’s wrong, she deserves to be told as much.
She’s a representative and is supposed to represent her constituents and needs to know when we don’t agree with her

14) In conclusion, my opinion is that AOC is wrong about whether a vote on Medicare4all would be helpful or not, but it’s debatable whether demanding it is the best move, but not because the bill wouldn’t pass
15) And it doesn’t matter whether you like Dore or not, or whether he’s a total hypocrite on certain things, on this issue his idea was decent and certainly it’s merits aren’t impacted by ones opinions of him
