Makima : a antagonist analysis thread
So now that Pochita has revealed Makima’s overall goal in the latest chapter I can now actually say me and most of the readers understand her motives and character-
Pochita reveals that all the control devil( makima) ever wanted was to be hugged and mutually loved by people which is when most of us realized fujimoto forshadowed this early in the series
Going back to makima and denji’s date we see her cry after watching a film of two people hugging each other and then admits that she’s watched it numerous times before which is really sad to think about and shows how much she’s yearning for that type of affection
this where Obsession comes into the picture. During the entirety of the control devil arc Makima hunts down and tries to manipulate chainsaw man/denji so that he could eat her. Now we all know Pochita also admits that all he wanted was to be hugged. Doesn’t that sound familiar?
It’s unlikely that Makima was aware of this but that just adds to the fact that Some devils just want to be loved rather than feared which is how they gain power and thrive so Makima’s mehthods were clearly wrong but in her nature ( control and manipulation) and she relates to-
chainsaw man in that aspect + relying on him for her conquest for a perfect world where she doesn’t exist
The fact that Makima manipulated the plot most likely before the story even began and built up denji just destroy him for a genuine hug still gets me riled up but her actions were understandable especially if u take into account how the public safety organization and overall-
In conclusion Makima just wanted to feel loved but the way she goes about it is what make her such a great and compelling antagonist and fujimoto is amazing when it comes to the foreshadowing in her writing. She honestly just might be a top 3 new gen villain imo
