There's so much I want to gush about from that new AOT ep. Here's a thread on it. My thoughts might be a little disjointed because im compiling everything as I write this.

No Spoilers here.
Although there was nothing really much that happened throughout this episode action-wise, in terms of direction, this episode was so meticulously cared for that it's nothing short of painfully obvious. If I could summarize this episode visually with one word, it would be...
"Movement". In a show where you are accustomed to sweeping action scenes, upbeat fight choreography, explosions, destruction, gore, and the like, this episode is a complete change in pace yet subtly hints to the movement and action you have been used to since episode 1...
The use of CG has been integral to AOT since the beginning but this episode in particular shows the value that CG can bring to the forefront during what are otherwise fleeting and quite somber moments. The swooping pan of the camera to introduce new characters here for example.
There's just constant movement. People passing by and the camera dollying along side them to hand us off to the main subject of the upcoming scene. It give this sense of urgency of the location; bustling and anxious to get somewhere, as this dolly movement is quite fast.
Also loved the dolly zoom as he approaches the rest of the cast. Ran out of characters to mention that lol.
And then the rotoscoping; this really could have been a static shot without much character movement, but instead its expressive and peppy. Once again the camera is moving in accordance with our subject without a single cut as he frantically skitters around.
Some shots I wont even explain, ill just include ones I like.

Gabi being God's gift to Earth as usual.
Once again, more movement where Gabi can't help but sit still and has to be the center of attention; completely busting into Falco's shot. As fluid the entirety of this episode has been, obviously.
This moment feels choppy as Reiner begins to reminisce. Gives that fleeting feeling that I spoke about earlier; none of this feels like its going to last very long. Like its just some faint memory from a blip in this long timeline we've been through.
Wild celebration, more movement in the foreground and background. Gabi is too precious.
Tense moment. I didnt even notice initially until going back and rewatching that this entire scene was vibrating simulating the train's movement. Compliments this scene quite well where we get into quite an intense conversation.
Head turn here was snappy; not much to note but I just liked this moment a lot.
This sequence getting off the train; so much more movement with people walking in and out of frame in the back and foreground. 3rd image makes for such amazing use of CG in such a tender moment; loved this so much I got a bit emotional lmfao.
Really fuckin' tense moment. Camera slowly zooming in and the overwhelming noise filling the room as everyone hones in their focus.
Idk I loved this episode so much, especially since I wanted to be a director for film throughout high school. I love seeing little things like these shown here. Hope I didn't come off as a pretentious film kid lol. Thanks for reading through it though, here's another Gabi.
And dont even get me started on the soundtrack for this episode omg.
