Look folks, communicating in text is hard, limit it to 280 chars and it's harder still.

I was involved in two emotionally charged threads today. In one, the participants were open to communicating and learning from each other.

In the other, an exercise in I'm right and you 1/
are wrong and I'm not interested in trying to communicate and find common ground.

Both spoke to the power of what I just shared the other day. When you're feeling emotional, attacked, etc. instead of responding with venom right away, take a step back. Re-read both what they 2/
said, but also what you said. Examine the words and consider how maybe you or they mis-understood the meaning.

Then respond with the intent to clarify rather than react. I get that people get attacked out here and many of the bad actors use disingenuous behavior to lure us 3/
into interaction before pouncing.

But consider this. If you react harshly and that person is out to do harm, your reponse won't harm them but it could create a situation that hurts you.

On the other hand, if you respond harshly and it was based on a misunderstanding, your 4/
response could harm someone who is a genuinely good person and make you look like an asshole.

However, respond constructively with intent to understand and communicate and you literally have nothing to lose. You can still block if they turn out to be shit. 5/
These should be universal concepts in life, but sadly as humans we all can do better, especially me. But please, consider these words, consider how you react, instead of assuming the worst, try to seek the best. Maybe we could then avoid some of this stupid Twitter drama. 6/
In the first thread today, I made a new acquaintance, in the second, I blocked one person who I think is a legit good person and another who thought that the best way to defend that person was to attack and act disingenuously. I felt much better after the first. 7/
So can we all please try to #DoBetterBeBetter?? I promise you I'll be trying from my end, I'd love to have you join me in that.
