*clocks out of translating rinne just in time to have a breakdown abt him*
he loves the bees So Much and bc they dont just accept whatever he does or says and question his motives (which is how he wants it to be) he can see them as his equals and its what he tried so hard to teach to hiiro... to not just agree w him all the time but to think for himself
and in a way he found that in kohaku who has learned that exact lesson from him and hrmmmnfbhh even tho the bees all talk shit abt him all the time and he acts heartbroken abt it theres still this mutual respect and care for each other underneath it
rinne is such a realistic character bc hes constantly torn between wanting to be accepted and wanting ppl to see things from his perspective on one hand, but despising it when ppl follow him blindly as they used to in the village... he wants to be challenged and still succeed
you can see in his early interactions w kohaku how they mirror the interactions he had w hiiro when they were young (in a harsher way than how he treated hiiro) bc the one thing rinne looks down on is ppl who just do as they are told and dont take their life into their own hands
so that was a big problem he had (and still has to some extent) w hiiro who was raised to just agree with rinne no matter what, and ultimately caused rinne to jump ship and leave the village bc it was so suffocating for him
but again, he can't stand being denied (big theme stretching thru several of his stories) so he can't help but lie and deceive people and keep his motives a secret, not just to challenge the others like kohaku believes but maybe also bc he fears his reasons arent good enough
in hot limit flashbacks he lied to niki bc he believed that the truth is not good enough and not befitting of a village chief, so hes constantly fighting these high expectations that he places on himself even after he left the environment that originally placed them on him
