THREAD: The latest M4A debate isn't a leftist civil war. Yes, there are some high profile users using it to go after w/ one another w/ ad hominin attacks. It is actually about putting pressure on elected Progressives who were elected to challenge the Dem Est.
Many, myself included, feel that House Progressives are too acquiescent to Pelosi & other Neolib senior House leaders. The moral & *savvy* approach is for House Progressives to use the circumstances, which are in their favor, to go on the offensive against Pelosi.
Pelosi should be vulnerable. Her disasterous leadership, esp. during COVID caused Dems across the country to lose big & to have the slimmest House majority in 70+ yrs; this occurred in spite of Trump's unpopularity. That's an EPIC FAIL. Kick her (figuratively) while she's down!
For too long many leftists were content w/ the House Progressives writing pro "M4A pass it on" tweets w/ the hopes that M4A would organically happen w/ peaceful persuasion. Pelosi, who serves corporate interests, is dead set against & has used every procedure to block it.
House Progressive will have to invoke the wrath of Pelosi, Neal, Clyburn & other senior members if M4A will ever become a reality. David Sirota is right to note that there should also be pressure to block Richie Neal's reappointment to Ways & Means as he's a Big Pharma shill.
House Progressives should use Pelosi's failed leadership & the lack of organic normie enthusiasm for Joe Biden's status quo Neolib Presidency as leverage to take a more muscular, adversarial approach.
There is a large bully pulpit for M4A specifically. One of the reasons COVID is hitting the US so hard is that ppl can't afford their medical bills so they don't seek treatment. COVID also causes mass layoffs, which in turn causes people to lose their not great health insurance.
Some leftists are using a straw man argument that white leftists are unfairly picking on AOC, a WOC. AOC is the most ambitious House Progressive & is obviously making a play for the Presidency in the near future. She courts liberal media the most.
Naturally AOC's actions will come under the most scrutiny. If she wants to be Prez, she will come under an avalanche of scrutiny, so it's important to see if she can handle it. This is about *all* House Progressives.
Another bad faith subversion I've seen is some leftists taking a page out of CNN/MSNBC punditry where they sidestep the issues & make it about one's "personality," in this case Jimmy Dore.
You'd think that witnessing how MSNBC shifting the focus exclusively Bernie's & his "Bros'" "personality" & "yelling" & ignoring the issues that he/us were advocating for, that we'd be more mindful not to stoop to that shameful dishonesty that hurts the left & helps the Est.
