1. I really dislike the argument "well at least they're reading" when discussing quality texts and the rise of celebrity authors. I'm sorry, but no. Children deserve the best that we can offer, not the easiest alternative. We should know the texts suitable for our children...
2. We should signpost books, writers and illustrators that show children a picture of our global society whilst allowing them to see themselves in what they read and view. We wouldn't settle for substandard maths, so why do we settle for poor reading books?
3. I get that some children will only read from one author, but that's because that's all they know. We can showcase so many more awesome writers and illustrators from that point! #edutwitter #education #books
