There is a danger brewing in media, and it isn’t on the journalism side of the house, it’s in the opinion section. We are seeing a legitimizing of bigotry, racism, and misogyny in editorial. Platforming hate as academic debate is what opinion editors are doing.
It is especially dangerous when opinion editors have ties to far right and ultra conservative think tanks, skewing their who and what they attempt to legitimize and how they attempt to sneak hate into the mainstream.
That The NY Times, would allow Cotton to run an editorial calling “to send in the troops”, is an example of such irresponsible behavior. To not print hate, racism, or bigotry is not silence to debate, it is responsible journalism. There is no reason to legitimize these point of views. Ever.
