One of the reasons vulnerability is so hot these days is because people live in a decadent society and are rarely confronted with the fundamental unsafe natural of the world, yet can feel it lacks meaning and so they try to impose their internal world onto the external world
One of the best things you can tell people who say they "just don't feel safe in x environment" is "correct! You are not safe, you have correctly perceived reality!" We need to learn to defend ourselves against danger not retreat forever into safer and safer holes of unreality
This is the world in which we tell men to endlessly explore their emotions which, no surprise, is often deeply distressing for them because it puts them into a state where they cannot take action to defend themselves.
Looked up the definition of vulnerability recently out of curiosity and boy, I think we need to reckon with that and realize what we are asking of people, men and women alike, to do when we ask them to engage in casual vulnerability
