Last year, @AJStream publicly pledged to never again complete a year of shows without at least 50% female guests.

In 2020, we’re proud to have met this goal for the third year running.
In 2018, @KarinaSaidi spearheaded The Stream's #GenderBalance initiative and analysed years of data to find out if our shows were as inclusive as we wanted them to be. Researcher @MayaY1010 helped with the project this year.
You may notice from the figures that our guest numbers began to decrease after 2018. This change is explained by The Stream moving from an average panel size of four guests to three guests because we believe that number leads to better discussions.
At first, our findings were not great. We were booking more men than women. This was important to know so we could keep ourselves accountable and make #GenderBalance a priority.
We produce just over 200 live shows every year on @AJEnglish and we believe that news coverage, and the media in general, is only effective when it is representative.
Newsroom diversity is important and most of our team are women. Questions of diversity and inclusion are discussed when guesting every show and meeting our annual #GenderBalance goal is an ongoing mission.
What do you think about this #GenderBalance initiative? Tell us what works, what’s missing and where we’re falling short. We want to continue this conversation. Let’s drive progress, together.
You can follow @AJStream.
