Alright, I’m holding off on the next Ultraman Z article until the finale airs this next Friday, so to make up for it, let’s talk some more about UGF The Absolute Conspiracy

So the “Ultimate Wars”, previously referred to in the fandom as “the Great War” is an important era of the M78 setting’s history, and connects to a lot of Ultra heroes that we see in various shows.
Which is ironic because we know very little of it outside of aside mentions.

Here’s what we DO know:
Empera attacked the Land of Light itself, along with several other Big Bads in the setting, with lots of kaiju, shit was fucked, a lot of people died.

We also know that Ken (later given the title “Father of Ultra”) earned his reputation in these wars.
But he also fought alongside Belial, and even considered him a comrade and friend.
But he also fought alongside Belial, and even considered him a comrade and friend.
If there’s one big disappointment in this episode, it’s that we don’t see anything of that relationship, only Belial after he’s clearly been hardened and turned prideful and bitter by the wars.
Now if the name “Empera” sounds familiar, it’s because this overdramatic goth fucker showed up the Mebius series too (and got owned for good in that show’s finale)
But that was a showdown 30,000 years in the making. His rivalry with Ken started here.

Now THIS is a new bit of lore. This is also pretty neat because it marks Marie as a Big Deal within the Ultra’s society, (not to mention she already explicitly outranks both of them here as the leader of the Silver Cross corps healers)
DAD MODE ACTIVATED
in reality I almost guarantee you they did this so the duel here would match up to the flashback footage from Mebius, since there wasn’t a suit for Ken’s younger appearance until the Ultra Galaxy Legends movie several years later lol

In-Universe though, it’s a nice bit of parallel, the sword gives Ken the strength to fight Empera to a draw, but Ken works the next 30,000 years to live up to that power on his own rather than relying on the Ultimate Blade.
Compare that to Belial who tries to take the shortcut

no seriously they even bring back the same background effects that the Mebius footage used lol
Anyways, both Ken and Empera walk away with wounds from this, but more importantly Ken hurts Empera’s pride enough that he finally fucks off and the war more or less ends.

We already knew about this too, that the Space Garrison/Intergalactic Defense Force was founded out of the rebuilding efforts following those wars
We also speculated Ken being appointed its Commander would’ve really pissed off Belial, but there’s a new twist this time....

Before, it was just Belial’s own doubts and demons that drove him to seek power by stealing the Plasma Spark - the source of light for all Ultras - but now he’s got an extra shoulder devil hanging around needling him into making bad decisions
I said this last night already, but I would imagine Tartar Sauce’s influence probably pushed him to an even darker place than in the original version of events. Maybe even sped up the time frame of his decision and inevitable fall.
And yes that is in fact a younger version of Zoffy! He’s missing the Star Marks, or medals that mark his heroic reputation as the leader of the Ultra Brothers later on, but he was around for the events of the Ultimate Wars, and Belial’s fall too.
Belial didn’t just gain immense power from the Plasma Spark, it fatally wounded him - which is the whole reason why Reiblood was able to possess and corrupt him in the original version of events
But Tartar Sauce has different plans for Belial.
But Tartar Sauce has different plans for Belial.
I love that one moment of “Well I’ve fucked up everything and wasted my life” disappointment from Belial here. With all his bridges burned and now his own quest for power made futile, Tartarus really only leaves him one option
-to JOIN HIS BOY BAND :D
Okay so there’s probably going to be some faces here that are unfamiliar for new viewers.

First starting from the left is Zett.
No, not Z. Zett.
Villain antagonist from the Ulfes stage shows. Think Shadow the Hedgehog but a Zetton and you’re close enough.

Next to him is Alien Bat. Finale villain in Return of Ultraman, where he tried to launch a full scale war against the Land of Light, and later tried to destroy Ultraman Zero in the Ultra Zero Fight specials.
He gets thoroughly owned both times.

The two big golden dudes in the center are Judah Specter (with the sword) and his brother Mold Specter.
The former joins Empera in the “I got my ass kicked by Ken” backstory club, and both him and his unfortunately-named brother get owned AGAIN by Ginga, Victory, Zero and X.
