On friday during Captain Sparklez’ stream Dream said “I say that they are a bunch of cheaters and we lynch them” when referring to people who were cheating/finding loopholes during MCC’s Ace Race
I understand the lighthearted tone but the word lynching is not the right word to use. ever. especially when joking. this word carries a lot of weight in the black community. I thought more people understood the weight of this word but it’s okay i’m here to educate
the term lynching refers to: death (as by hanging) by mob action without legal approval or permission. although reports on lynching can date back to the late 18th century lynching was at its height post civil war to the post civil rights movement.
during this time after all slaves had been freed in america lynching was very common amongst white people to their black counterparts to keep them in check and to establish a sense of fear and superiority. a lot of lynching would take place in hate groups including the KKK.
in the US between the years of 1881 to 1968 an estimate of 4500+ people were lynched (mostly in the south). that number is only those we know of, historians believe there are thousands that went unreported. more than 75% of these incidents were black people. most were innocent

200+ anti-lynching bills were introduced to congress between 1882 & 1968 and only THIS year was an anti-lynching bill finally passed. Throwing around the term lynching without its racial background is bad enough since you are essentially saying you’d like to hang someone
Understand that there are SO many other words you could’ve used that have similar meanings but choosing this word & the lack of recognition after bothers me. My teachers did not use to send kids outside when talking about lynching bc it was ‘too much’ for you to make it a joke.
dream, I cannot tell you how to use your platform cause it isn’t my place but please understand your word choice in this situation and how it harmful. A simple acknowledgment of understanding would be much appreciated cause i know you can do better <3
I am not “canceling dream” I am holding him accountable. hold content creators account! this thread is to draw attention to this issue and EDUCATE. if your take away from this is to cancel dream then you didn’t get the point.
I would like to end this by saying dream is NOT racist! please do not refer to him as one! this thread is to educate not cancel!! (rt so hopefully this can reach @dreamwastaken2)
