A Charlie Brown Christmas is the greatest work of popular culture in the mid twentieth century, and maybe ever since:
1. Art direction is lovely
2. Voice acting is endearingly stilted
3. Directly addresses depression
4. Directly addresses secularism and commercialism

What I mean is that if they used a contemporary intellectual property and made a Christmas special, they couldn’t help but try to make it cute and wink winky and fundamentally about the IP’s brand.
On #4, the best part is how it shows the way commodification of Christmas is a force of secularization.
It also captures the tremendous cultural and market pressure towards secularization. Recognizing Christmas, or Advent, for the sacred season it is requires concerted effort.
