I am a strong proponent of free speech, but let’s be real—that’s not the reason @WSJopinion chose to run that mind-numbingly stupid op-ed. This was trolling in its purest form, it was published to be provocatively offensive, not to share an actual opinion of any consequence.
The idea that there is some obligation to publish any and all nonsensical hot takes in the name of free speech is disingenuous and simply untrue. They deserve every criticism for publishing something that had zero value other than to create a fake controversy and get clicks.
The biggest legitimate criticisms of @WSJopinion are not that they run opinions that people in the newsroom disagree with, but the lack of editing standards and repeated disregard for facts and intellectual honesty when presenting those opinions. https://www.wsj.com/articles/wsj-journalists-ask-publisher-for-clearer-distinction-between-news-and-opinion-content-11595349198
