Lots of people will tell you to watch out that your kids (sons, in particular) aren’t being radicalized online. But how do you do this? Well, there’s no easy way. But teach your young kids what to look for. Are they seeing or hearing derogatory things abt women? Jews?
Teach them enough to know what to look for. Are they seeing people online discussing people of color? Members of the LGBTQ community? If kids know what antisemitism, misogyny, racism, and homophobia look like, that it’s not okay, you’re opening a discussion.
Encourage them to look at jokes skeptically, to look at user names and avatars. I don’t know what age is right to begin this but by 4th grade they’re completely capable of knowing the basic things to look for. It’s not rocket science.
And if you’re a parent and you don’t know what to look for but you’re concerned, do your research.
Anyway, raise your kids to know that the only cool and edgy thing to be is antifascist. White nationalism is a dead end. It’s for dorks and liars and losers.
