Hospitals are not like the Babalawo or Dibia's shrine where magic happens, they give out care based on some factors.

1. The technical capacity (manpower).
2. Availability of Bedspace.
3. Cost implications.
If your lamborghini has a fault and you take it to baba risikat the mechanic to fix and he says he does not have the skill, but can give you an address to a better place, is that rejection?

There are three levels of care.
1. Primary (PHCs, CHCs)
2. Secondary (General hospitals, most private hospitals)
3. Tertiary. (Teaching hospitals, FMCs).
If your case needs that level 3, if you go to levels 1 and 2, you will be referred to level 3 hospitals! Not REJECTED.

If you go to a private hospital, and they cannot handle your case, you will be referred to a bigger GENERAL hospital or a TEACHING hospital or an FMC.
Okay?
Not rejected!
Now to the second point.

If you get to a hospital, sometimes there may not be bed space. Bedspace does not literally mean a bed that exists in a space.
It means the capacity of the manpower and equipment in relation to the available beds have been exhausted and it cannot admit any more.

You cannot fill a 25 litre keg with a 30 litres of water. In such cases you will be referred to a presumably bigger hospital where there may be bed space.
It is not the immediate fault of the healthcare workers not management. The solution to that is to increase the capacity!

Finally. The cost implications.
Listen. A PRIVATE HOSPITAL IS A BUSINESS. IT IS NOT SET UP FOR CHARITY NOR IS THE GOVERNMENT PAYING FOR YOU.
You cannot walk into shoprite and drink chivita from the stand without paying, can you?
You must pay a "deposit" for services.

If you go to a private hospital. And you cannot pay, listen here, services would not be rendered. It is that simple.
For whatever treatment that is given, someone has to bear the cost! And it is definitely not the businessman!
If you cannot afford it, you will be REFERRED.

Referred to a general hospital. Why?
Because unlike a private hospital a General hospital is set-up by the government and the government can afford to bear the cost and even subsidise for some of the servicds rendered!
Better still, you may be referred to a cheaper option.

I made this thread because I intend to use it to enlighten anyone who uses the word "REJECT" instead of "REFER".
It's forgivable not to understand how the healthcare system works. But it's unforgivable to remain IGNORANT!
Know this.
