Evo X Review: A go kart that you can drive on public roads. Simply put, it is a precision tool. On the open road, virtually nothing will keep up with it. Especially where corners are involved. https://twitter.com/Kalasinga_/status/1337981848941715456
It is (at least to me) mind boggling quick. It is so quick that it tends to scare other drivers, especially where they don't anticipate a car to be that fast. One second it is behind you looking mean, the next it is infront of you and disappearing into the horizon
People always ask, ni gari gani hizi huenda Mombasa na 4 and a half hours? I can bet you that this car will do NRB-MOMBASA in 4.5 hrs without breaking a sweat. The rate at which it piles on speed is mad.
I found myself easily maintaining 180kph on the open road and feeling like the car is doing 90kph. (it needs approximately 400 metres of road only to reach 170-180kph). Only reason it couldnt go above is that this one is yet to be delimited.
As always, with such great power (Approximately 300hp and 400nm) comes great responsibility. It is a vehicle that requires you to be sober, alert and very aware of your environment.
The car also attracts alot of attention and commands alot of respect on the road. From roadside fruit vendors, boda guys, mat drivers. It does not go unnoticed. People will stare. People will walk up to you in traffic and tell you 'nice car'
When you pass a town you will see boda guys pointing at it. If you like that sort of attention, trust me, you will get it in this car.
Ofcourse, with all the performance, good looks and attention it gets, you have to pay for it somehow. So these cars are not cheap to buy, an import will set you back 3.2m -3.7m (clean low mileage units)
They are also quite expensive to run. On average, I was getting between 5kpl(gunning it) and 7.5kpl(my normal driving style). However, it is possible to do 10kpl on the highway at like 100kph with a very light foot. I saw that a couple of times.
The consequences of getting 5kpl is that a full tank is only good for about 250KMs. Basically going to Mombasa you might run out of fuel before Mtito Andei if you're not careful with your right foot. At 8-10kpl though it will get you to Mombasa.
The car is also not very comfortable for long journey's(luckily with the power it has long journeys need not be long 😬) My co-driver's back wasn't too happy after doing the round trip. Personally I was okay. My body frame fit perfectly in the Recaro Bucket Seats.
Oh Btw! The car uses a twin clutch automatic transmission that shifts faster than you can think. A manual may be engaging, but this one will shift gears way faster. Although this transmission costs a pretty penny to maintain.
It is a perfect car for people who love power. It does not look so boy-racerish like Subarus. It is more mature and subdued. And is in my view a better daily driver than a Subaru STi.
This particular unit is on sale for Kshs 2.5m negotiable. It has only done 11,000KMs in Kenya and a total of 87,000KMs total. If you're interested, reach out.
Any questions about the car? Reach out too.
From one of the questions, it is a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder Turbo engine. (4B11T).
The car runs on huge brembo brakes for proper stopping power.
In terms of Audio, if you're lucky you can get a Rockford Fosgate sound system..This one has the standard system.
Oh. And since it was discontinued in 2016, this car will become a collector's item. Might even appreciate in value over time.
