Thought I'd throw together a Malachi Flynn thread from last night's game, picking out the moments that stuck out most to me:
First up is an example of his range. Catches the ball well beyond the arc here, but confidently rises up and splashes it home with defenders looming.
Flynn's defensive instincts are great. Here, he closes out on Rozier at the arc, but instead of leaving his feet or jerking forward, he stays down and with him the entire time to eliminate the chance of a blow-by, ultimately forcing a super difficult shot.
Mentioned this before, but Flynn has a strong nose for reacting to loose balls and filling passing lanes. Here, Thomas and Len do a good job forcing a tough PnR pass, and Flynn swiftly leaps into action to create a steal and get out on the break, where he gets Thomas a nice look.
Strong Lowry vibes here. Len sets a solid screen (that Rozier does a good job fighting around) and Flynn instantly pulls up into the space, knocking down the triple.
Here's Flynn and Len working together again, this time in semi-transition, with the latter committing an, admittedly, moving screen that allows for him to drop into the paint. Flynn hits him with a sweet pocket pass right on the money and Len draws a foul.
Rookie-on-rookie battle here, as Flynn recovers from digging as a help defender to close out on Riller in the corner. Like before, he doesn't leave his feet, and sticks with Riller like glue, forcing a tough fallaway.
Flynn gets a mismatch onto a big here out of a PnR. He sizes him up, crosses him, and gets into the paint where he isn't able to finish. Even so, he sneakily pokes the ball free from the rebounder and creates an extra opportunity that sees Bembry score.
McDaniels gets Flynn one-on-one at the arc and mistakenly thinks he can take the latter off-the-dribble. Flynn stays right with him and forces him back to the arc where he passes the ball away.
Finally, here we have Flynn working some more PnR magic. He comes hurtling up the arc to wrap around two screens. Seemingly with no good options, Flynn drives deep into the paint, drawing the attention of help, and finds Boucher with a wonderful dime for the slam.
