Fresh Air - Awyr Iach A thread for Welsh Leaders:

For the best part of 4 months @huwwaters and I have been campaigning to raise awareness of the benefits of increasing ventilation of fresh air in indoor settings when people are in the company of others. 1/14
I haven’t hidden my frustration as to the lack of action on our authorities and leaders to take this on board and share good practice and advice with the public who really need this information. The transmission rates we’re seeing in Wales at the moment is of great concern. 2/14
It demands that we throw everything at the problem. International leaders proclaim that people are fed up, and tired of the rules, but the public need to be empowered on how they can keep themselves and others as safe as possible by keeping the risk of transmission low. 3/14
It can be a pretty lonely place when no one seems to listen to you, although you know you’re right. So It was a huge relief to see a breakthrough this morning when @WelshGovernment tweeted this- it’s not only right, it’s a damn good tweet! But this by itself is not enough. 4/14 https://twitter.com/welshgovernment/status/1338078761108070401
We need to push now, we really need to PUSH the message to people about the 4 things they can adopt to reduce the transmission rates during what is prime time for virus transmission, and the busiest time for our NHS- the winter. 5/14
Yes, Huw and I have been going ON and ON about ventilation, about how the virus is #airborne and that this warrants extra precautions. The information is clear on this, and it’s starting to reach where it needs to. But let’s not forget the other 3 important steps: 6/14
Wash your HANDS, wear a FACE covering, and maintain SPACE from one another. But it’s now time to add another: REPLACE the stale air with #FreshAir. The message needs to be heard across Wales. Promoting regular opening of windows is a no-brainer. See http://www.freshair.wales  7/14
Yes people are fed up but we can’t police people in their own homes. Some will inevitably do what they please. But the good majority will listen as long as the message is delivered, is clear, reliable, and consistent, bilingual and in a manner that is equally memorable: 8/14
We’ve worked with @angleseycouncil to help raise awareness of airborne transmission and the need to ventilate indoor areas, and will continue to do so. They listened to us, and got on with it because there’s nothing to lose, and possibly a heck of a lot to gain: 9/14 https://twitter.com/angleseycouncil/status/1336332238561013761
I urge all of you to do the same. Don’t expect this information to reach the public by osmosis. We need the established media, your media outlets and endorsements to help drive the message further. Please see these images. Feel free to use them for your social media: 10/14
And these in Welsh: 11/14
It has to reach everyone. I fear it isn’t currently. But when it does reach people it seems to be well received- 12/14 https://twitter.com/trishgreenhalgh/status/1337115450203844608
People will meet up over the next few weeks, they are desperate to do so, so let’s encourage them to do so as SAFELY as possible. We have little else we can do but through excellent, consistent and clear communication. 13/14
I wish everyone of you the very best for the coming months. We’re going to need it. We’re all tired and desperate for this to end. But fight on we must, and do everything we can to get the message across to the Welsh public as clearly as possible.
