THREAD 1/3. First question I ask a HS athlete interested in running in college is: “Do you REALLY LOVE the SPORT, not just the success?”

It’s easy to fall in love with the success in HS and confuse that with love of the sport. Not the same thing at all.

3/3 Sustaining produces better performances in time. That’s why HS coaches who focus on HS success don’t have as many athletes who later improve.
Of course HS success is important, but if that’s the only focus, you’re only coaching to make yourself look good, not your athletes.
