It’s a beautiful morning for coronavirus vaccines to be shipped across the country — and as luck would have it, that’s exactly what’s happening today at the UPS Worldport in Louisville. The @courierjournal is out here to watch as they arrive, more updates coming.
The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines are being flown from Lansing to Louisville, where they’ll be shipped to the eastern US. Here at the UPS Healthcare Command Center they track the shipment and make sure it all goes smoothly. Satellite maps, security, other info is being tracked in here
The plane left Louisville for Lansing at 8:20, it’ll pick up the vaccine packages up there and come back by midday. So uh, smoke em if you got em I guess, it’ll be a bit before the plane returns.
Been told the plane carrying the first batch of coronavirus vaccines left Lansing at 11:08, meaning they should arrive in Louisville within the hour
Plane with coronavirus vaccines landing any minute in Louisville. You think they’re ready out here at the UPS Worldport? (btw follow @MClevenger_CJ for photos later that are actually, like, good)
UPS dude behind me: “The bird is here.” Coronavirus vaccines have landed in Louisville.
Been told there are four of these containers on the plane, full of vaccines. They’ll be unloaded in Louisville and put in other planes to be sent around the eastern US. They’re being kept at -70 degrees.
*Call to the Post plays*

And they’re off!
Heroes — dude in the green shirt was unloading coronavirus vaccines AND has a phenomenal mullet. The wheels are on the floor so that it’s easier to drag the air containers from the 757 they flew in on to the conveyor belts. One person can move a 3,000-lb. container I’m told.
Hannah Elble, Southern High School senior, says she’s known teachers and others who have been hit hard by COVID-19 in Louisville. “It feels like I can finally do something about these problems instead of just staying at home.”
Covering history and that 5% power remaining notification hits the iPhone... (we’re actually heading out, but more coronavirus vaccine arrival coverage from this big day in Louisville is coming this afternoon so stay tuned)
