Everyone is focused on the sexist denigration of Dr Biden’s deserved title. I’d ALSO like to point to the denigration of her dissertation title.

Under the guise of “equity” and “retention” journals like CCRC & policy lobbyists like Competr College America & Partnership for College Completion are systemically trying to 1) lower the standards for college readiness 2) push unprepared students into college level classes

3) take away true equitable support like developmental education 4) track and channel public school students into vocational classes from earlier and earlier ages

They do so claiming that “co-req” classes are a successful mode when ALL research actually proves otherwise. Co-reqs take students who should be in dev Ed to get equitable, robust support & put them in hybrid 101 classes that are eithe dumbed down or they they will fail

They call the “co-reqs” words like “equitable” or “gateway to college success” because they want you to believe that all college placement or dev Ed is the barrier. It’s not.

Ed reform only cares that the MOST students are placed into English 101 because it saves the state money if unprepared students fail out EARLY AND COLLEGES like this too because it makes their graduate rates look better

Obviously it’s racist and classist as hell to use the guise of equity to actually create a situation where 1) students don’t take dev Ed and get the resources & support they need in college to succeed 2) it’s racist & classist as hell to not care if students then fail out
