my full interpretation of two ghosts:
i feel like a general interpretation was made about these lyrics among larries and we all just kind of went with it, but i think this song has a lot more to unpack than people give it credit for.
the general larrie interpretation:
"same lips red, same eyes blue // same white shirt, couple more tattoos" = louis, bc tattoos and blue eyes
"but i cant touch what i see" = hidden romance
.
.
now i'm gonna do a full-length line-for-line lyric interpretation so bare with me lol

"but it's not you and it's not me"
i think this line needs to be taken a bit more literally. taylor is not who he is singing to. the lyrics directly state that the person in the first line is not the intended listener. we assumed this was metaphorical, but i don't think it is.

"tastes so sweet, looks so real"
i think this is referring to the public's consumption of celebrity relationships. i feel like it's a bit of an 'ignorance is bliss' line.

"sounds like something that i used to feel"
don't cancel me but i think he's referring to the types of people he used to find himself infatuated with vs the ones he does now. like 'that would have made sense a few years ago,' if u catch my drift.

"but i can't touch what i see"
in response to the last line's 'back then, i would have liked her' this feels like, 'but now that i know better, i have to hide it'.

"we're not who we used to be (x2) // we're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me // trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat"
the chorus feels pretty direct and emotive but i'll still break it down. +

+ it's along the lines of: we've changed, we've grown, & the general reminiscence of a time when harry & the intended listener were blissfully ignorant & innocent, before a load of shit was dumped on them way too young.
with the second verse, i'm gonna focus a bit more on explaining why it can't be about taylor, rather than why it has to be about louis, because i feel like that makes for better proof.
"the fridge light washes this room white"
there are significant patterns of homeliness/kitchens in harry's lyrics. the kitchen is thought to be the most significant room in a family's home because it 'brings people together'. keep this in mind.

"moon dances over your good side"
harry also has a pattern of writing about the moon/night time in romantic songs. the significance is that aspect of 'we can only bring out our love at night, when the world is asleep.' *cough cough the moon knows we're in love cough*

"this was all we used to need" wait wait back up harold you're telling me 'all you used to need' with this person was a sense of homeliness at a time when you can bring out your love, & you want me to believe that was about mega papped hotel room girl u dated for 3 months? bro???
"tongue tied like we've never known // telling those stories we already told"
how did you have time to repeat stories to her it was like 10 weeks did you even know her favorite color

"cause we don't say what we really mean"
wdym harry i thought it was pretty obvious that you were with taylor why would you lie about that?
.
.
anyways that second verse is domestic asf when you think about it in reference to his boy and it makes my heart hurt

okay so we understand the lyrics, now onto the music video:
psa i have literally zero idea if this is accurate because we never got the mv, but i'm gonna guess based off of what i can piece together
this story starts with a generally quite dark/deserted looking landscape. and a very vulnerable looking harry in his white shirt. then the landscape starts to be painted with...... rainbows?????? anyways then harry starts to sulk a bit and,,, swim in the rainbow? kinda sus idk
then the landscape seems to have been painted, and he's walking around and sees a weird blue cube. he approaches this cube and,,, worships it?? (whipped) then i think this storm of like blue petals is around him. then, (what appears to be) the ghost is in front of him.
this is the order that makes the most sense to me, considering one video clip we have (i cant find it but i'll attach it at the end once i do).
this mv definitely would have been absolutely fucking brilliant. i can't piece together an exact storyline from these without sounding foolish, but i think some significant parts are the rainbows painting everything, the blue cube & petals, the ghost, & how harry is dressed.
keep in mind harry didn't release this mv because it was 'too personal' for him... anyways, altogether, i think this song is one of the loudest & most significant songs harry has released, & it needs more credit for that.
ok these are my thoughts goodbye pls dont make fun of my thoughts bc i felt smart writing this
also here’s the rainbow paint video
