Small analysis about the past few – and outlook or prediction for the coming weeks. Contains:
– University Hospital Zürich with only 3 ICU beds left urges for national lockdown
- Swiss covid tactics
– Gastronomy curfew and exceptions

In todays Sunday press the University Hospital Zürich asked the Bundesrat for a national lockdown because they only have 3 intensive care beds left. This could have an effect, as this hospital is one of Switzerland's most known and important ones.
Meanwhile the Council intervened last week and introduced new national measures with a gastronomy curfew at 7pm – BUT with exceptions. If a canton reaches certain criteria (based on reproduction factor) it can stretch curfews to 11pm. All western cantons did that.
This rule and esp. its exceptions may lead to a big chaos. Now it's not that present because of a clean cut; 11pm in the Romandie, 7pm in the German speaking part and Ticino. But once single eastern cantons stretch the curfew, one can imagine what's gonna happen.
It's likely that this rule around the exception might be waived and has (also) been introduced following pressure of the western cantons that had stricter measures the past months.
It seems like that the swiss governments Covid tactics could be called 'edging', but now it's coming really close to a bad climax. The country gets more and more divided based on two agendas: Humanity and economy.
It's clear that the general tendency that the Swiss government is aiming for is economics. It appears to be hypocrite because they never say so and bring up many excuses. It's understandeable that many people lose trust in the government because of this.
In many press conferences everyone was waiting for new measures that didn't come. The rules were lax but the Federal Council admonished society to 'really take care now!'. Slight gaslighting going on, especially because the lax attitude was proclaimed as 'preserving freedom'.
When they say 'we don't want to lock people up at home' and even mention mental issues more often recently (while they actually never paid real attention to these before) it becomes clear that it's not about this agenda, but in fact about economy.
The moment where this is not being mentioned can be dangerous for the social climate. It creates a clear cut between the ones in power and society. Which is especially bad for a country that proclaims direct democracy all the time.
A country that is financially so wealthy could afford a lockdown easier than other countries. But it seems it wants to stay on its current level of wealth. Going into a stricter lockdown would mean that businesses have to be supported and the country would go in higher debt.
