I’ll say it until I die: comedians are not the establishment. They’re the entertainment poking fun at the people who are the establishment. Because we have a right wing gov, and business are conservative, we get left wing jokes. It’s not THAT complicated https://twitter.com/chortle/status/1338066893349990402
If you want jokes to be about politicians on the left then VOTE THEM IN. When they’re the headlines, the decision makers and the actual players they will be the focus on satire
If you want right wing topical while right wing is hugely popular prepare for a lot of jokes like “why is Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal like chocolate? Because it’s brilliant! Well done Boris!”
The reason most of us don’t joke aimed negatively at non-white people, LGBT+ people etc is not because we’re afraid of being cancelled or of mystical cabals, it’s because there’s no joy in that as it’s not punching out at people with untouchable power in the real world*
*(that’s a mass generalisation, and I don’t mean no LGBTQ+ people or non white are powerful, obvs, I mean as a subject for comedy it’s not sticking it to the man to have a go at someone who gets screamed at in the street, it’s just joining in the bullying)
