@BorisJohnson @michaelgove @DominicRaab I hope as you weigh your next moves that you have at least some thoughts for what #nodealbrexit means for the people on the front line of this - by that I mean 1/
It’s lorry drivers -that have spent months working all hours, keeping the nation fed through #covid sat in cold dark traffic queues, taking two/three times as long to do the same job for the same money 2/
It’s the transport planners that support these drivers trying to find any way possible to get products from A to B, planning and replanning where vehicles drivers and products are going to be - 3/
It’s the warehouse operative trying to work in overfull warehouses, working out which desperate customers’ demands to prioritise, knowing that whilst they are working through what would usually be their annual peak but there being no end to the pressure in sight 4/
It’s the teams in charge of buying and selling the goods we rely on - who are trying to forecast sales for the next 6 months with no knowledge of what the cost of the products they have to buy and sell will be - knowing full well there are no right decisions 5/
It’s compliance professionals working through weekends, and bank holidays trying to operationalise labelling, customers and food safety paperwork requirements that in many cases you haven’t yet published 6/
It’s your junior government officials that have to take your incoherent last minute ‘decisions’ and try and turn it into something vaguely workable, working with despondent, angry and confused business representatives 7/
It’s CEOs praying that they make just about enough money from the Christmas period to keep their business afloat and hoping that contingency funds and borrowing depleted by 9 months of #covid will hold and keep their business afloat for another period of uncertainty 8/
It’s border officials facing a 20 time increase in workload in full media glare, using as yet unready and untested IT tools - preparing to be the lightning rod for all that is not ready and fearing the reaction they will face on the ground 9/
Everyone of these people and more are being kept away from their families and children - either literally away from home - or constrained to back bedrooms, relying on WiFi connections and conference calls to do an impossible job in impossible timeframes 10/
In a year when there has not been a single day of let up, when people are exhausted you are asking all of this of them - I hope you understand that ... 11/
So when you are briefing media contacts that you are taking control of no deal planning (where have you been up to now!) then please do us a favour and do it with a little bit of humility. end/
