...I fully support the idea that @dawnafinch gives in that it’s CHOICE that needs to be promoted. I can’t understand the frankly wrong view that children “enjoy” the farts and fun. Of course they do. So do I. But in doses. Children need far far more than cheap laughs....(2/)
The other thing is this idea about “reading what others are reading”. I see this a lot and try to forge an individual path personally but that takes confidence. It’s why reading aloud is so crucial: it creates a community of readers who “read what others are reading” but...(3/)
...it’s done in a way that’s deeper and way richer than just reading the next Walliams or Rowling because “that’s what everyone else is reading”. The non-selective approach just creates automatons; non-thinking readers...and therefore citizens too. (End...for now!) @AmandaPCraig
