Thinking about how the GS protagonists compare to each other
Isaac sets out to be a leader, and he's good at it. Confident and good at giving orders, but not so proud that he can't ask for assistance or advice from his teammates when he knows he's not the best person for a job

Felix doesn't set out to be a leader, but ends in a leadership position anyways because of how his companions depend on him, and how he depends on them- he naturally fits the role
Matt is neither. He tries to be leader because he thinks that's what he's supposed to do. The first half of Dark Dawn sees him trying and failing to fit those standards.
After the Grave Eclipse though, he finally gets that sense of responsibility that pushes him further. He's not being a leader because it's "what's expected of him," but because he *wants* to in part, and also because the situation demands it.
He feels responsible for what happened, and he's stepping up his game to fix his own mistakes.
The first half of Dark Dawn has a very "friends just hanging out" vibe, while the later half has that real sense of teamwork and reaching a goal, if that makes sense
