The MAGA truck corps and Q army are not going to flatter your sensibilities if you come from the milieu that produces the chattering class. You have to reconcile yourself to tolerating their folk beliefs and folk ways or else why even bother with the populism?

If you want populism, you—and here I mean the high-minded big brains who claim they do—are going to have to defend what is déclassé and kitsch, or, god forbid, find the courage to just let these slights pass without declaring these people crazy and beneath you
